“Empowering Marginalised Women Combating Domestic Violence” Sharing Session

  • 18 January 2020

In 2016, HER Fund collaborated with Kering Foundation to launch a three-year special programme, “Empowering Marginalized Women Combating Domestic Violence ”, to raise public awareness and attention on intimate partner violence (IPV), and support marginalised women who are threatened by IPV.

After the project was completed, we invited the three involved organisations: Asbury Methodist Social Service, Les Corner, and New Women Arrivals League to share and exchange how to practise “power transfer”, so that young girls, lesbian women and newly arrived women can become project leaders.

A social worker from Asbury Methodist Social Service, Fei Yu, shared a very remarkable quote during the session: “When we give autonomy to our service targets and let these young girls tell us how to lead our way, their energy is as powerful as a volcanic eruption.”

Impact of the Event

  • 17 members from different gender organisations learnt how to transfer power from the sharing, letting the service targets lead independently;
  • Participants used images and words as a medium to reflect on their understanding and practice of community-based work from the perspective of personal and organisational experience.
